Awh my Smudgers its a fab day when the childhood masterpiece that is "The Fox and The Hound" is on telly in the am:) Unfortunately I'm going to have to go to college in ten minutes and miss the rest! But hey that's life! 

Today is very exciting nonetheless because Freaky will be travelling up to Galway tonight for the Neostrata event - cocktails, a hand peel and skin analysis! What an evening! At the last Into The West Blogger Network #itwbn event, we were given complimentary Neostrata products and let me say that my face was so smooth and soft, you could have eaten your dinner off it! 

 

I'll be dolling up tonight but for college, and life, I've taken on a new approach with my fashion style; "Dress Like You're Already Famous" - i-D Magazine quote. So that's what I'm going to do! The latest edition of i-D (which I think everyone should read because it is a fantastic magazine) focused on beauty; what beauty means to people and how it effects them. We all have the potential to be beautiful, it just takes us looking at our own reflection long enough to realise it. 

My look today is inspired by the New Jersey clothing line "Gyspy Warrior" (I can't afford their clothes so I've improvised :p ) #gypsywarrior ; I've a brand new choker from Blondedge #chokeblondedge , a black sheer vintage skirt from Cotton Face #cottonface , and an "Up All Night" from Topshop. The shoes are my own D.I.Y. Disco shoes (for more on them flick through my posts). Sorry for the crappy pic Smudgers

When in Doubt...

Hey Smudgers, 

So it's been quite the roller-coaster lately; college is a mess. Anyone in First year Art and Design will punch you if you ever say "so you draw all day?" because we work our asses off and there's no one there to see it! It's great that out of over 800 applicants, 220 of us got in. But we got into the college, no our courses. So while we're all partying together and leaning on one another for support in this whirlwind, we're all enemies. I get a sick feeling in my stomach when I think that I mightn't get into Fashion and I'm changing my project for the 4th time! 

Right now Smudgers I'm supposed to be studying but I'm so wiped (between antibiotics and my second round of root canal treatment) that I can't even focus. 

But there has to be a way. I'm one of those people that believe everything happens for a reason and that if you wait for things to happen in your life, you'll never live. I'm going to get up off my ass after this post and work!! 

Think about it, everything around you is made or constructed by someone with a drive and a dream and a little backbone. I'm writing this on my Mac computer, listening to my IPhone - Steve Jobs WORKED! All the artists whose music I'm listening to, from Jimmy Eat World to Lady Gaga to Slipknot - they WORKED! All the clothing websites I've saved to my bookmarks, from Vivienne Westwood to Forever 21 to Drop Dead - they WORKED!

I know I promised the pics of FWs but despite my hours of scanning through all the fashion shows this season, I've lost all the pictures that I loved - I really don't get technology!! I was so angry after I lost the pictures that I went shopping :/ I can't even find the hashtag key on the keyboard; fml....

Halloween is coming up with severe speed (lol tomorrow) and I will be travelling down to Cork city to attend the Freakscene Halloween event in the Savoy Hotel so expect some rocking pictures - it's supposed to be amazing! What are all the Smudgers dressing up as this Halloween?? There's two types of girls at Halloween which I love because you kind of see who is fun and who is the evil slut that just wants to be sexy :P Girls; live a little! I'll be going as a broke student so SUGAR SKULL - Loving all the skull makeup takes with this look; some are so elegant and wicked so here I go! 

Mark your calendars by the way Fashionistas because 'Style in the City 2' is coming back on the 10th of December to Galway and I CANNOT WAIT! If it's anything like last time it will be truly unforgettable and full of fun and yummy cocktails! Another thing to save up for in London is the Alexander McQueen; Savage Beauty exhibition which will take place from March to June/July - I'm going! 

When in doubt, Travel! I live by this rule too much which is why my bank account has seen better days... But I'm currently on a quest to get my friends to got to Paris with me for a few days, I just want to go away to a beautiful city and forget my troubles :) but sadly no one is really tagging along... IF I HAVE TO GO ALONE I WILL (believe!). Every day is a new adventure and a new day to be someone new. Every night the you from yesterday dies and what you wake up with in the mornings is the memories and a little baggage, but you can change everything in a day :)

So I'm going to change today because the me of today is wasting away and there's been no fun had (and no study done either..) So later Smudgers ^_^

College Times

Smudgers it's been one hell of a road this past while!

A/W Fashion is taking over my life and I'm addicted, there's no turning back!! I'm gonna wait til Tokyo Fashion Week wraps up (because wow) before giving ye all a scoop of my thoughts on everything fashionie and funky! 

In other distressing news, Joan Rivers has left the building. Yes, an icon in media and fashion, and an idol of mine. I honestly respected that woman so much;  she was ballsy and fierce, and look at all the things she accomplished in her life! If I'm still doing what I love like her at that age I will consider myself a very happy person indeed. I think it would have made her laugh, seeing all the tweets from celebs giving their thoughts and blessings to "Melissa and Conor".... It's Cooper guys, do the research!! :p And Fashion Police will never be the same... I think the whole reason I watched that show was to see her slam some fashion sense into those celebrities. Did you know that the question we love to ask "Who are you wearing?" came from Joan and Melissa Rivers. No one asked that before them. Oh Joan <3 

Well we're hitting the month of October and the last month had been all about getting back to school or college after summer.., oh course if you're a Fresher/Freshman/First Year, then it's been party month!!! ^_^ you've joined 14 societies, made some new friends , gotten sick on a doorstep, and you know you kissed someone in your course last week but still aren't sure who?! :) because that's what it's all about! But I'm going to be a total mom for a minute and just like to remind ye about taking care of your alcohol intake because I didn't the other night and thank God I had a fantastic friend with me to take care of me because I was such a fool. Also, if you're in a bad mood don't drink to "blow off some steam", that's not how it works. So be careful guys! 

But college is great fun! For some, me included, you're living away from home. Leave me a comment to let me know how that's going, even if you're not a first year! It can be difficult at times and you've probably been told back home that you look malnourished or something :p and you're apartment probably smells funky! Do you like the people you're living with?? Are they strangers or friends?? Missing home?? Let me know :) 

Right now I'm on the bus back to the Limerivk School of Art and Design! My dream college since I was in 5th year and I got in. :) Loving it in Limerick but college is still work; we have a project for the semester about "what if?" - Thats our entire project, how vague! I think I know what I'm doing but I thought of 5 other things along with it and attempted to mix them together so now I've confused myself! Great job Freaky ^_^ actually my dear Smudger, question? If you could create a society what would it be called and what would you do?? My friends and I wanted to start the Secret Rave Society but the idea wasn't too solid, so I'm taking this to the floor :) 

Well Smudgers, I'm going to love ye and leave ye but keep in touch for my A/W Fashion post, coming to a device near you!

Fashion in Vienna and Prague

Hey Smudgers,

Well college starts next week so yesterday I finished up my job working at XR Marketing :( but the fun doesn't end there as right now I'm on a bus up to Dublin with the crew to go to the annual business rally in The Lighthouse Cinema in Smithfield! I learned so much from this job. 

I know people have their reservations about commission based work but honestly, for my age group, I think it's the perfect job; my pay check every week was based on my own hard work and effort, if I was lazy I didn't make money that day but if I worked my ass off I got my recognition. I dealt with rejection on a daily basis and while it sounds like it would tear you down, I built my cobnfidence up by miles and took on an indifferent attitude to those who were rude to me and keep a smile on my face. Commission jobs create amazing work ethic for those who stick with it, and I'd recommend it to any college student for the summer! 

I'm so hungry right now and all I can think of is that amazing lunch we had in the Gaslight Bar (Hotel Meyrick, Galway) at #itwbn. Lovely menu there and right in the heart of the city Gaslight as a lunch Venus. 

Open each day for coffees and scones from 10 and then you can get a delicious meal from 11am to 10pm. Whether your thing is fancy sambos, wraps, soups or big juicy mains for two or a party of more, the friendly staff won't keep you waiting. Ideal location for your mum's next birthday, your brother's engagement bash, or a classy work night out :) 

A hopping House DJ will play your tune while you sip cocktails and nibble on party food on weekends. Or go out with the fam any night of the week at 2 courses for €23 or 3 for €30. 

Always great fun to a unique theme and feel free to join the Gaslight Bar for their next Supper Club on the 26th of September for a "Taste on the Bay" as they conduct a playful fish themed menu to celebrate the Galway International Oyster Festival! Nom! 

Speaking of Festivals, I have recently returned from the FM4 Frequency Festival in St Polzen, Austria ^_^ it was AMAZING; if you like the kinds of Jimmy Eat World, Rudimental, Blink 182, Queens of the Stone Age, and Lily Allen - then this is the festival for you! 

It's mucky I won't lie but fancy pentagon shaped bathrooms await you in the arena (if you don't mind waiting in line), but crazy stalls offering piercings, clothes, temporary tattoos and food fit for rockers are scattered everywhere! This year's theme was outer space so the stages had "We Come In Peace" signs and robotic invaders dotted on boards.

But let's talk fashion; Festival was mostly ripped jeans with boots, statement tank tops, floral backpacks, leather jackets with studs or plaid shirts, and baseball caps :) 

 

Moving away from the festival and down to beautiful Vienna; the Daily wear was very efficient, jeans being an essential part of this. T-shirts and jackets, runners and sensible flats. Lots of v necks actually.... And not a heel in sight! Like everyone was pretty tall anyway but no heels were worn on the Austrain streets. 

And then I got a 4/5 hour bus to Prague aka Praha! Now I didn't plan my trip abroad in the slightest, usually I do something but yolo, so when I hopped into a taxi to the wonderful Art Noveau Palace Hotel and the guy says, "That'll be 480" - I went white until the nice man told me that was like €6 :) so remember that €1 is 27.90 czk and don't be surprised is you get a bill of 1,000!! 

The fashion in Prague is much the same as Vienna but it's more easy to spot the fashion conscience people; they walk with their designer label bags in the streets of the Old Town, there's usually a pair of shades somewhere on their apparel, and they look serious. People on a mission! 

If you need a place to go for lovely food, music and some fun in Prague, I'd suggest going to Caffreys Irish Bar in Old Town - amazing fun, and the hot bartender is actually from Wexford :) I had to laugh at the Irish Car Bomb beer!

Life can be short, like me :)

Well the past few days have been a roller-coaster, and I really do feel bad but now I'm back on the bloggers wagon and ready for this!

For anyone looking to get away for a weekend, or you're visiting Ireland for the giggles, visit Letterkenny, I beg you. It's funny how it's so far away from everything, yet it has everything so you don't have to go anywhere else! Handy enough!

I'm going to do a short little review here now for PhotoBox.ie. I remember a few years ago, chilling with Miss Derry over there, and watching her put together those online photo album things! I always wanted to get one done so last week (or the week) before I was searching online for a good site and I found http://www.photobox.ie, so I went in and clicked on 'Books' and got the 30 pages for 14.95 (euro), did my theme (I would have like to be able to stick my own pictures or own patterns as the theme, but they have a wide selection in their range), then I added in my pics, and TA DAH! Said it would be here on the 10th and it was :) happy outwith my lovely photobook; I was able to put in captions, expand or decrease the size of pics, added in about 55 pictures in total - looks great! The only thing I would say to anyone, and I'm sure this applies to every site - make sure that the pic is in good resolution, few of mine don't look too good (or maybe that's just my face... :/ ).

Fashion, fashion, fashion  - live, sleep, and breathe (cuz no one eats!) fashion <3 This week at GTI has been fun yet busy! I really can't complain; not only am I in a course with a lovely bunch, I'm doing something that I love! Not everyone can say "I've to go design an 8 piece collection tonight and look at magazines" :) I'm lucky and I know it. What's even more great is that I enjoy the work and I can say for sure that this is what I want to do with my life  - THANK YOU GTI!!
This week we had to create a mood board, or inspiration board, for the trends and designers of S/S14! Paris, New York, Milan and London - so many paper-cuts :) Will have to put a pic up for ye all but unfortunately my board is in school for the weekend. We also had to get a skirt type we like, e.g. pencil, flare, etc., and create 8 flat drawings of the skirt and edit them in different ways - now we are going to make one of the eight :P Sounds fun, and it is, but I had to make the most complicated thing I could think of - because I'm just awkward and difficult like that.... My skirt is a pencil that then flares out at the knee (1950's Inspired). My pattern looks like the blueprints of a maze but hopefully, granted I don't make a ruin of it, I'll get high marks for my troubles :)
It's crazy to think that I've only one more week at college, and then I'm on my mid-term break. 6 weeks have gone by since I started this course which is mind-blowing. Like they warned us it would go fast but you really never feel it!

Oh great news! One of my darling friends and I have gotten ourselves (actually our super sound teacher did) work experience in BROWN THOMAS GALWAY, helping at the window display! For all of you not from Galway, this window display is THE window :) Everyone knows that once the BT's Christmas window display comes up, Christmas is here! I'm actually so chuffed to be apart of the experience, it's a huge deal and massive honor!
Galway at Christmas time is my favourite place to be! The lights go on all around the city, window displays go up, everyone is happy, the Christmas Market comes to town and all the stalls smell like Christmas! The Christmas Market is great; people from all over the world pay a butt load to have a stall at the Market, and then all these tourists come and there's loads going on all the time.
I think I'm very fortunate to live in Galway, and be from Galway; the City of Tribes, the City of Festivals - you'll hardly ever get bored here because there's always something: the Arts Festival, the Film Feadh, the Oyster Festival, Christmas Market, the Comedy Festival, the Galway Races, and sooooooo much more!

Best Buys #2

Fellow bloggers, faithful readers, and Mom,
I could spend like the next couple mins saying sorry for not posting but I've been sick and busy and it happens so I'm going to post daily til the 6th (Sunday!) and we'll call it even ya?!
I bet some of uuz are delighted, haha! :)

Well I haven't done a Best Buy in ages so here's part 2! I've raided my wardrobe and here's some of my much-loved pieces that aren't in the wash or residing in the houses of my friends that swore it was just a borrow :P
Let's start out small with the bits and bobs! To the right; I got this stunning little necklace, that goes with everything, in H&M (Brussels). I think it was only about €14.99 - neon pink triangles with little silver beads. A small thing but it goes a long way. I like to wear this with a long black dress / blue pendulum top/ nice to add to a plain tank top or something, glam's things up a tad.

 Me and this bag have seen a lot of good times together! This is the bag I bring with me when I don't want a lot to carry, the bag I take on holidays, and nights out :) I bought this little cross over number for, I recall, €10 at Public Romance on Lower Abbeygate Street, Galway. A lovely vintage and 80's vibed shop. A bag velvet bag, threaded with gold, and topped with little charms.

 Now onto the clothes (sorry they look all wrinkly!). On the left we have this amazing dress from ModCloth.com for $54.99. Leather at the top and galaxy at the bottom :) perfect combo! I have to say that I love the skirt part more so I tend to wear a jumper on top if it's cold out so I can show the bottom off.
On the right, it's Penneys finest! I wore this jacket today and got so many compliments from people :) Army jacket with gold studs on breast and pockets, handy for any occasion!!

Now this dress is something different altogether! I got this from one of my favourite shops and sites - LazyOaf.com. Some really quirky and amazing stuff. This is the Mr & Mrs Repeat dress, and I cannot stress this point enough - GET IT IN SMALL! It's supposed to be baggy and I have to put two belts on mine otherwise the wind will take me :) But it's really cool and I love it! Reduced from £65 to £35, it is most definitely a must buy!!!!

Sorry about my not posting last night, I have to say with college and everything, all the work piling on, I'm getting lazy and this is unacceptable! I'm going to change the font on this thing as well maybe, make it easier to read.

My reason for last night, it was Arthur's Day- a notorious (mainly aimed at students) event which dictates that everyone drink, preferably Guinness, to their hearts content... Today I rocked into college feeling like Bambi learning how to walk. Lesson #1: Guinness is disgusting, and Lesson #2: Going into college on a hangover is not the smartest move to make. Live and learn I guess..

But what really perks me up is looking at all the style on the runways and then talking about them in class :) It's times like this when I praise the Lord for WWD.com. Been following them for 2 years now so I know my research and what have you! Oh and if you have a chance check out this amazing photographer, TOMAAS (right) - has definitely helped inspire me for my recycled garment project.
Anyways yes gotta love Paris! So far I've been looking at brands like Azzaro, Balenciaga, etc. Everything is either fitted or shoots out, white being a favourite of the season, as clearly seconded by Nina Ricci. I have to say there are quite a few cold and pastels colours that seem to be coming our way. But Dior is having none of it - beautiful oranges and blue (a tasteful combination). A shredded look as well which I haven't seen much of except for ThreeAsFour.

Metallics are in according to Lanvin (left), I love anything that sparkles or shimmers and the light simply glorifies this collection.  I have to say that from pretty much every collection I've stalked so far there has been such an emphasis placed on the neck- whether their wearing a scarf, chunky necklace or elongated neckline, all road signs point this way.

Loving the 'Sailor meets Grease' vibe I'm getting off Olympia Le-Tan. Between this under-water adventure and Orla Kiely's preppy Explorer, it's so hard to chose. And where can I get a pair of those low cut cowboys shoes featured in the Paco Rabanne collection?? Not normally my thing but cute.

Well that's all from me tonight gang. Again sorry about the sloppiness on the posts but if there is one thing you can count on it's that the Pinterest page is up to date! Facebook and Twitter doing well as well! Hope everyone had a good Arthur's night if you were out! One lesson I learned last night the hard way  - there are some awful weirdos out, and if you feel you're in an awkward situation it's okay to "overact" or whatever, as long as you get out of there! I didn't freak out in time but thankfully there are some decent people in the world!

Oh God it feels like a migraine!

So if any of ye saw the pic I posted to Twitter this morning, you'll know that it was POURING this morning (like after 8am?!) but by 10am, thankfully, it went away. Though it was wet but humid, and dark but bright :P I love Galway but the weather is seriously bipolar...
I went to the National University of Ireland, Galway or NUIG this morning to visit some friends there and by God is that place huge! They only brought me into the Arts/Science Building and it felt like being in an airport terminal... Crazy stuff! It's such a pain that they have Starbucks when I'm too afraid to try the coffee in our cafeteria! I think they could smell the GTI off me, it felt like trespassing in the Garden of Eden (lol). But they don't have fashion....

So day two was great fun, and very long! My first class at 11am was Commercial Fashion Design! We were told about our assignments for the year, and also the things we would be studying in Fashion Appreciation. So we're going to be learning the History of Fashion from 1870 onwards (all I could think of was Marie Antoinette), and we'll be writing reports on Irish designers! We also have to do an assignment on a historical designer (between 1870 - 1960). Through the year we will be studying fashion, decade by decade, and keeping pics of all the stuff we like and come across throughout the week. At the end of the year we will gather all these pics up and create a book with captions of each decade :) Sounds pretty cool!

After this we had Embroidery and I have to say that using the sewing machine to create a straight line is not an easy task :P I've a pic here of my progress (if I can really call it that..), but it was loads of fun, until I realized that I'd three sheets of shapes to do and the class was two hours long... o.O

After what seemed like such a short break to me (and I was feeling so sick, pity please!), we went back for a whopping 3 hours of Pattern Drafting.... It sounds so boring but to be honest it wasn't that bad! Kinda like a class dedicated to joining the dots :)  We have assignments here as well that we'll be completing throughout the year, like making a pin cushion, a (tote?) bag, uhhhh a skirt... and an outfit with an accessory!! So today we made the patterns for the pin cushion and the back of the skirt. I gotta say it was pretty interesting and cool, and it makes the whole "make-your-own-crap" process easier when it's explained to you like that. Also we will most hopefully be going to London in February to look at fabrics! It sounds like such a granny getaway sort of thing but I think everyone just heard 'London' and was like "we NEED to go!".

Counting down the time until 6 was rough, and I'm so tired, but so far I'm loving college life. Meeting new people is great, and I'm lucky that there aren't any b-itches in my class! One thing that annoys me is that I don't have a uniform anymore and I have to wear something new everyday.... I'm like two weeks away from wearing my pjs in ><

Day One Down

To quote the well known words of Asher Roth - "I Love College".

Such a fun day! Classy me, I was five minutes late this morning! Though I felt okay as myself and five other girls were the only people in the entire classroom... Only to discover that we were late and the teacher had moved the class to a different room, only to return to us a half an hour later :) 

My first class of the day was (guess what?) Fashion Design! There we were told the basic things we would be learning, like improving our drawing etc. And we did a "get-to-know-each-other" exercise. That went by pretty fast and then we had an hour break. The biggest change I'm going to have to get used to is that my friends in other courses at the college had different timetables!!

Short Friend: From one til two :) u?
Me (even shorter friend): UHHHH two til three!

Hard Life! :P

After lunch, I was late again by like 2 minutes, and to be fair I went to the bathroom! But the teacher didn't care so all good there. Then began Continued Materials in which we learned about all the different equipment we needed, that we would be creating a skirt during the year, creating a pin cushion, and what we would be doing in Pattern Drafting, Embroidery and Garment Construction (because it was the same teacher for those classes). Then, with the use of the buddy system (kidding!) our teacher brought all 24 of us out of the Claddagh House and into town. From there we went to Powell's on the Four Corners and bought a set square and two sheets for patterns. There was such a temptation to buy a colouring book but I fought the urge :) Next we went to Hickey's in the Eyre Square Shopping Centre to look at all the cobs, different things that we needed yet half of us didn't have the money to buy it, etc. 

In all it was a really good day! Anyone from Galway will know that, although it has the 3rd (I think) biggest city in Ireland, it's a pretty small place - met loads of girls from the ole secondary school, and met people that I didn't even know were going to G.T.I.! Had such a laugh and cannot wait to go back tomorrow :)

I have to say that I couldn't keep up with the stuff from Fashion Week today as well as I would have hoped so I'm just going to add these pics which I loved from Kate Spade and Thom Browne to the Facebook page. Guys really do check out Thom Browne's collection - speechless to say the least, and very.... Tim Burton, in my opinion!

A little bit of me!

Heya,

1st post (little weird :P) Uh.... I was never really any good at keeping diaries, I tried when I was nine but there's just a load of crappy stickmen playing frisbee!
Short stories! Yeah, I can write those, and God knows I create such messed up screenplays in my head! I tried to write a book once though, I think I was like.... 14 (?!), and I got pretty far in it but my problem is: I got bored :( But this time, oh no!

Leaving school and heading into college has definitely made me realize one thing: I'm getting older! Somehow the whole primary school to secondary school labelled me into a time frame (hopefully that makes sense!). I didn't feel like I was getting older or anything because I was still gonna end up in the same place the next year, everyone was! And now, that's all changed!
People are moving out, moving away :'( It's really exciting but I still feel like I'm a child (technically I am!). I feel like turning around to my friends half the time and being like "Woah when did you turn 18?"

So yeah, I'm still a kid (outta nappies and all!), and I'll be staying at home this year cuz FASHION called and we're best friends now! I'm sorry that was painfully corny and just terrible :/ Anywho, I'll be a fashion student in a weeks time (I think!) and I'm really excited :) I always liked fashion and dressing up in my mum's knee high leopard print boots...... they were for a Halloween party but, to be fair, she kept them for quite some time :/ .... Since the age of 3, I wanted to be a singer, and I was so into that and determined.. Until I entered a singing competition a few yonks ago. Did the audition and all well, but when it came to the crowd at the next stage, I panicked! :( I did my song with the mike shaking in my hands and left!
Realising that I'd no hope in music, I just looked for something creative.... and eventually I found fashion! I'm not gonna tell you some inspirational story on "how I knew I wanted to be a fashion designer", I just remember scribbling a face in class once and being like, "OK she needs some clothes!" :P And it all just came together... my new creative outlet!

(WARNING THIS IS GONNA SOUND CORNY WARNING!)
I believe that designing a dress is really no different from writing a song. It all starts with inspiration and emotion :) Has a beginning, middle, and end! (Though in terms of fashion that is arguable) :/ But every part of that, is a bit of you and your voice, your opinion, your stamp!
